Out of the Closet (uit de kast)
Guerilla book promotion during the Gay Pride event
Uit de kast... en dan? (Out of the closet... what next?) is a book about gay lifestyle in the Netherlands. To promote this book, we handed out lots of handkerchiefs during Amsterdam's notorious Gay Pride Canal Parade. The handkerchiefs were embroidered with advertising for the book. They were meant to be worn in the back pockets of trousers. A nod to the infamous system of "hanky codes" employed by some gay men to communicate sexual preferences. In keeping with this, there were two versions: "I'm reading it" and "I'll have it read to me".
